How Capri Sandals Are Fitted by Hand

One of the things that makes buying handmade sandals in Capri different from buying an ordinary pair of shoes is the fitting.

At A•MANO, when we make sandals for a customer in our Capri workshop, the process does not end with choosing a size.

It starts with the foot

Two people who technically wear the same shoe size can have very different feet.

The width of the foot, instep and preferred fit can all affect how a sandal feels.

That is why the position of the straps matters.

Choosing the design

First comes the fun part: choosing a model and selecting the leather, colour and details.

Once the design has been decided, we can begin fitting the sandal.

Positioning the straps

The straps are positioned according to the design and adjusted around the individual foot.

They should hold the foot comfortably while maintaining the proportions of the sandal.

Only once the position is right are they fixed into the sole using the traditional construction method.

The final fitting

The finished sandal is tried again so that we can check the overall fit.

The result is not a mass-produced shoe that happened to be available in your size.

It is a pair that has passed through our hands — and was fitted to yours.
